ASM launches the PRAS5 range of Heavy Duty Rotary Position Sensors with rugged housing for harsh environments

Heavy duty applications require products from companies that are reputed for their quality, reliability and attention to detail. This is why ASM has developed the NEW range of PRAS5 Heavy Duty Hall Effect Sensors with a measuring range of 0 - 360° and sealing up to IP69K. Automated Control Engineering (A.C.E.) are the exclusive national distributor for the new PRAS5 range.

Whenever a rotary sensor is to be used for a “Harsh Outside” application such as “Mobile Hydraulics”, “Wind Turbines” or “Offshore Applications” the sensor is expected to be impervious to the environmental conditions as well as the harsh application requirements. These include wide temperature fluctuations and sealing against water and debris.

This latest range from ASM, the PRAS5 family is available with either a stainless steel or aluminium housing which has been designed to allow the sensor to run continuously under these demanding conditions. The PRAS5 incorporates “Hall” sensing technology and is available with a 10mm output shaft or alternatively magnetically coupled via an independent magnet giving a true non contact measuring system. M8 fixings meet the heavy duty installation requirements with a temperature capability from - 40ºC to an optional + 120ºC. The PRAS5 can be ordered in angular increments of 15º and the rugged design has been tested for 100g/11ms shock and 20g vibration

A wide range of electrical outputs are available including 0.5 – 10V, 4-20mA along with a choice of CANBus outputs including CANopen and J1939.

Automated Control Engineering Group Pty Ltd (A.C.E.) specialises in the national supply of process and automation control equipment to a diverse range of industries that encompass the water, industrial, food, mining and petrochemical markets. Absolute + Incremental Encoder – combined in one enclosure!

The ACURO® family of encoders made by Hengstler, and distributed nationally by Automated Control Engineering (ACE), has been expanded with the addition of the new AC58-I; an encoder that can be used both for positioning and feedback applications.

In many drive and positioning applications, electric motors are frequently used, with an incremental encoder assuming the feedback and absolute encoders assuming the rotor positioning. Up until now, two encoders had to be integrated in order to attain the desired output signals. The use of 2 encoders not only increased the overall system cost, but narrowed the freedom of engineers in their constructive design.

Two in One!
With the new AC58-I, Hengstler now offers two encoders in one! Incremental and absolute encoder signals are combined together in one enclosure.

The benefits at a glance:

  • Reduced costs and smaller footprint

  • Absolute and incremental signals are combined in one enclosure

  • Suitable for a wide range of climatic conditions

  • Offering a wide temperature range from -40 °C to 100 °C

  • Reverse-compatible with all common types of frequency converters

  • Square-wave TTL or HTL signals are available

  • High system accuracy

  • Resolution of up to 29 bit, up to 2048 increments

  • Interference immunity

  • Offering high electromagnetic compatibility (up to 2 kV)

  • Non-susceptible to magnetic interference

  • Thanks to fully optical scanning

  • Minimized installation time and costs

  • One connecting cable is all you need.

The new K-System signal conditioners from Pepperl+Fuchs are not just characterized by their new and clear design engineered for utmost convenience and usability. Ranging from switch amplifiers to highly functional signal converters, they feature galvanically isolated signal transmission for the utmost in precision and safety. The new K-System signal conditioners are distributed regionally by Automated Control Engineering (ACE).

With the variety of process control systems available, it is often necessary to convert an input signal into a format that the system will accept. Signal conditioners take signals from an assortment of field sensors such as thermocouples and RTDs, and convert those signals into any of several standard instrument signals (1…5V, 4…20 mA, etc.).

Signal conditioners are also beneficial to the accurate transfer of these signals, isolation and the elimination of ground loops. Additionally, signal conditioners are
· Easy to specify
· Easy to integrate
· Easy to expand

One main function of signal conditioners is to prevent the effects of interference voltage and current through the use of galvanic isolation. This eliminates grounding problems of wide network signal cables. Signal conditioners offer much more than just this isolating function. This includes additional functions, like linearization and sensor supply as well as sensor and line fault detection.

Many signal conditioners have additional relay outputs in order to report min/max trip values. K-System signal conditioners are mounted on the DIN mounting rail. If the Power Rail is used, the wiring needed for the supply voltage and collective error messages is reduced significantly.
